The Islamic State Terrorist Group Killed the Chief of Police and His Two Bodyguards; Afghanistan |
Police officials in Afghanistan said on Monday that a car bomb had killed the provincial police chief and two of his bodyguards. An affiliate of the Islamic State terrorist group in Afghanistan, IS Khorsan, claimed responsibility for the bombing in Faizabad, the capital of the northeastern province of Badakhshan. A spokesman for the Taliban-led interior ministry in the capital, Kabul, told VOA that the slain police officer was on his way to work when a car bomb hit his car. The spokesman, Abdu Nafi Takoor, said that the explosion also injured two people. He added that police officers have arrested four suspects in connection with the attack. The IS-Khorsan group has increased terrorist attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power in August 2021.
