Nyerere Dam Water Filling |
Today December 22, 2022 Tanzania is writing history in the journey towards the energy revolution where President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to launch the exercise to start filling the Julius Nyerere Dam (JNHPP) whose construction has reached 78.68 percent. In the event that will be held in the project area and attended by approximately 3,000 people, Dr. Samia will press a button that will close the diversion tunnel, allowing water to begin entering the 32 billion liter reservoir. The step is big in the implementation of the project which is expected to generate 2,115 megawatts that will satisfy the current needs throughout the country, and be a stimulus to attract investors due to having enough guaranteed electricity. In addition to that, the dam whose implementation began during the leadership of Hayati Mwl. Julius Nyerere will stimulate the growth of other sectors such as agriculture, by enabling irrigated agriculture, tourism, due to being in the Nyerere National Park, it will end the challenge of flooding and also promote fishing, where it will be a large lake, surpassing some natural lakes in the country. According to the Director General of TANESCO, Maharage Chande, water filling is expected to be completed in 2024, and electricity production will start in June of that year.
